Pantographic Articulated Zero-Gravity Reaction Arm – M.Shimizu

The M. Shimizu pantographic zero-gravity reaction arm, developed by Engineering and Automation, provides ergonomics, efficiency and organization on assembly lines. It reduces operator effort by absorbing torque reaction and makes tool handling easier with smooth movements. It includes a rotating support, pneumatic brakes, sensors and a weight-neutralization system. Integrated with a PLC, it allows manual or automatic brake control and includes a Stanley QPM tool and selector tray.

Description

The zero-gravity articulated reaction arm is one of several projects developed by M. Shimizu Engineering and Automation, built according to customer specifications and needs to ensure:

  • Operator ergonomics by absorbing the reaction that would otherwise be transferred to operators during torque application on product bolts, reducing operator effort and fatigue to a minimum.
  • Easier movement of the torque tool, control panel and tightening program selector, keeping all operator actions close and organized, simplifying actions and reducing process time.
  • Organization at workstations through articulations, pneumatic brakes and sensors that facilitate other activities at the workstation.
  • The tool holder in this project allows full movement and rotation of the tool to access any required assembly position on the product.
  • The pneumatic cylinder and valve system in the arm provides simple and fast adjustment to neutralize the weight of the structure, arms, tool, cables and related components.

Therefore, this project includes a Stanley QPM electronic tool, program selector tray, pneumatic circuit, sensor interaction with the PLC and controller for the parking brake when the reaction arm is not in use. Manual control of the arm articulation brake was a customer option and can be automated by trigger activation if the customer chooses this type of automation.

Features

The LED stacklight signaling system works as a visual guide for the operator to identify OK, NOK or emergency anomaly status more clearly and objectively. This signal device is customized according to customer needs and may include command buttons, touchscreen HMI, audible signaling and several types of automation and PLC integration from machine PLC to production-line PLC, including stopping the line in case of an anomaly that compromises product quality.

The key advantages of using automation systems such as the zero-gravity reaction arm for M. Shimizu customers are SAFETY, ERGONOMICS, QUALITY and ZERO DEFECTS.
